JHU-083 (JHU083) is a novel, oral and potent Glutaminase antagonist with potential anti-depressive activity. It selectively blocks glutaminase activity in brain CD11b+ cells. It is a prodrug of 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine (DON). Blocking the function of glutaminase by the glutamine antagonist JHU-083 in experimental cerebral malaria (ECM) can result in a net decrease of glutamate levels in the animals.
