It is an an amino acid opine prodiced by a dehydrogenase found in the adductor muscle of the oyster, Crassostrea gigas. Alanopine derives from a propionic acid. It is a conjugate acid of a 2,2'-iminodipropanoate and a 2,2'-iminodipropanoate(1-).
