Piericidin A is an irreversible (covalent) inhibitor of mitochondrial complex I that strongly associates with ubiquinone binding sites in both mitochondrial and bacterial forms of the enzyme. Piericidin A induces transcription of the p53-responsive SESN2 gene which plays an important role in the stress response and homeostatic regulation. References: Imoto M.
