Moflomycin is an anthracycline analogue that exhibits a higher antileukemic activity compared to other anthracyclines, such as daunorubicin and doxorubicin. The higher antileukemic activity of this compound are from greater stimulation of topoisomerase II-mediated DNA cleavage and higher molecular stability induced by the presence of an iodine atom.
