Zolamide sodium may be used to prevent and reduce the symptoms of altitude sickness. This drug is also used with other medications to treat open-angle glaucoma due to its efficacy as a diuretic. It decreases the amount of fluid that can build up in the eye. It is also used to decrease a buildup of body fluids (edema) caused by congestive heart failure or certain medications.
