Background:

Caloxin 2A1 is a peptide plasma membrane Ca²⁺/Mg²⁺-ATPase inhibitor (IC₅₀= 0.4 mM in erythrocyte leaky ghosts).¹It is selective for the plasma membrane Ca²⁺/Mg²⁺-ATPase over the erythrocyte ghost Mg²⁺- and Na⁺/K⁺-ATPases and the skeletal muscle sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca²⁺/Mg²⁺-ATPase at 0.9 mM. Caloxin 2A1 (0.34 mM) induces relaxation in precontracted rat aortic rings, an effect that can be reversed by the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor L-NAME .
