Background:

(S)-Canadine is an alkaloid and intermediate in the biosynthesis of berberine that has been found inH. canadensisand has insecticidal activity.^1,2,3,4(S)-Canadine induces mortality inD. melanogasterlarvae (LC₅₀= 0.91 µmol/ml of diet) and adults (LD₅₀= 2.5 µg/insect).⁴
