Background:

Ganciclovir-d₅is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of ganciclovir by GC- or LC-MS. Ganciclovir is a synthetic analog of 2'-deoxy-guanosine that inhibits the replication of human cytomegalovirus (CMV) with an IC₅₀value of 0.01 μM.^1,2It is effective against strains of CMV from human, monkey, mouse, and guinea pig.^1,2Formulations containing ganciclovir have been used to treat or prevent CMV infections.^3,4
