Clarithromycin-¹³C-d₃is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of clarithromycin by GC- or LC-MS. Clarithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic.^1,2It is active against pneumococci,Streptococcus,Listeria, andCorynebacterium. Clarithromycin is a group 2 agent with respect to its interaction with the cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoform 3A4, as it exhibits a lower affinity for CYP3A4 than does erythromycin .^3,4Formulations containing clarithromycin have been used in the treatment of bacterial infections and, when used in combination with other antibiotics, in the treatment ofH. pylori.
