Background:

Doripenem-d₄is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of doripenem by GC- or LC-MS. Doripenem is a broad-spectrum antibiotic in the β-lactam subclass known as carbapenems.^1,2It is active against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, includingS. aureus,S. pneumoniae,E. coli, andK. pneumoniae(MICs = 0.03-0.06, 0.016-0.06,<0.015-0.3, and 0.03-0.06 µg/ml, respectively).^1,2,3,4Doripenem reduces the number of viable bacteria in mouse lung in a model of chronicP. aeruginosarespiratory tract infection when administered at a dose of 100 mg/kg per day.⁵It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by forming stable acyl enzymes with penicillin-binding proteins, thereby inactivating them.²Formulations containing doripenem have been used in the treatment of bacterial infections.
