Description: Levofloxacin sodium [(-)-Ofloxacin], a synthetic fluoroquinolone, is a broad-spectrum and third-generation fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent that inhibits the supercoiling activity of bacterial DNA gyrase, halting DNA replication. Levofloxacin is used to treat various bacterial infections including respiratory, urinary tract, gastrointestinal, and abdominal infections. Levofloxacin is active against most aerobic Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms and demonstrates moderate activity against anaerobes.
