Description: Ionomycin calcium (SQ-23377; SQ23377), the calcium salt of Ionomycin, is a selective and potent Ca 2+ ionophore. It is an antibiotic and polyether isolated from Streptomyces conglobatus. Ionomycin (SQ23377) is highly specific for divalent cations (Ca>Mg>Sr=Ba). Ionomycin (SQ23377) promotes apoptosis. Ionomycin also induces the activation of protein kinase C (PKC). Its depletion of intracellular Ca 2+ stores may be linked to the induction of apoptosis.
