Difamilast (OPA-15406; MM-36) is a novel, potent, and selective phosphodiesterase IV (PDE4) inhibitor with high selectivity for PDE4B (IC50=11.2 nM). Difamilast is being developed as a 1% ointment for the topical treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD), which is a common chronic, relapsing inflammatory skin disorder associated with increased PDE4 activity, characterized by intense and persistent pruritus which can cause significant impairment in quality of life, including sleep disturbance.
