Antibiotic; inhibits bacterial RNA polymerase. Inhibits adhesion of HUVEC cells to vitronectin (IC₅₀= 0.83 mM) and subsequently reduces paxillin levels. Suppresses tumor cell-induced angiogenesis.

Cell lines	Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), as well as breast carcinoma (MCF-7), prostate carcinoma (PC3), ovarian carcinoma (CaOV3), and small cell lung carcinoma (OH-1) cells
Reaction Conditions	0.05 ~ 500 μM thiolutin for 72 h incubation
Applications	Thiolutin potently inhibited HUVEC proliferation at 0.1 μM. The potent antiproliferative activity of thiolutin was selective for endothelial cells in that several other tumor cell lines showed weaker inhibition of proliferation by thiolutin (i.e., at 10 μM), and a small cell lung carcinoma cell line was completely resistant. Thus, thiolutin appeared to be a selective inhibitor of endothelial cell proliferation.
